It may appear like becoming a certified yoga instructor is a difficult task, but it isn’t. It could be a life-changing experience! Even if you decide not to use your fitness status to teach yoga, obtaining your yoga instructor certification can be highly satisfying. Not only will a good teacher training program educate you to teach yoga, but it will also help you grow as a person. Take ample time to learn everything there is to know about becoming a certified yoga instructor before beginning any courses.
While each certification program is unique, most of them will adhere to the Yoga Alliance’s guidelines (more on that in the video). Completing a Yoga Alliance-accredited certification program will most likely provide you with a thorough understanding of:
- a description of the various forms of yoga, including Ashtanga yoga, Restorative yoga, Hatha yoga, and so on
- teaching methods, yoga sequence creation, techniques, and teaching styles
- stances and poses in yoga
- Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras provide yogic philosophy as well as anatomy and physiology.
- Techniques of mindfulness and meditation
- how to accommodate special populations’ postures
Understanding The Alliance
Understand the Yoga Alliance Number two, in the world of yoga; certification is in constant movement. The state or the federal government doesn’t mainly regulate yoga.
So you can pay Yoga Alliance for permission to use their RYT trademark after your name, but it means nothing at the federal, state, or national level. So, depending on your own objectives, it may or may not be worthwhile. If you wish to get deeper into what certification means with me, we highly recommend listening to this podcast, where we go into more detail.
Select A Teacher Education Program
Number three, you must engage in some form of training. Yes, you want to take a yoga teacher training course, and the most typical structure is a 200-hour teacher training course. So in 200 hours, you cover a lot of ground, including teaching, anatomy, and philosophy. It would be best if you studied where you will receive this 200-hour training since it will genuinely teach you everything you need to know about becoming a successful teacher. While most yoga studios will focus their certification program on vinyasa yoga or vinyasa flow, you can completely customize your yoga instructor training to focus on the yoga and meditation style that most interests you.
Get Some Yoga Teaching Experience.
Step four is to teach. You want to practice… therefore teach. Many folks believe they will complete their 200-hour certification and feel thoroughly competent right away. The truth is that it takes years to gain that confidence, to have a powerful voice, and to have a presence in your teaching. So you’ve decided to begin practicing teaching everyone you can. Teach your mother, your dog, and anyone else who will listen. Free yoga lessons are offered, and yoga is practiced both on and off the mat. Begin logging those teaching hours because the more you do it, the better you will get, like anything else in life.
Getting a proper certification in yoga is never easy, and here are some of the best techniques for you to follow.
