Yoga Psychology and the Art of Freeing the Mind

Yogic psychology is the study of Yoga, but the word is not the same as “Yoga psychology.” Yoga psychology refers to a special branch of the study of Yoga. Many authors have described this phenomenon: “The term was originally used to denote the discipline concerned with studying the psychology of Yoga, particularly its psychological aspects and the mental and emotional changes that it can produce.” David Burns, in his book The Yoga Solution, used the term “Yogic” to mean the science of Yoga, while the term “Yoga psychology” applied to the field as a more generic term.

There are many differences between the two terms. For example, while all schools of yoga stress that the mind is one body – one mind – and that our emotions come from our personal experiences, the yogic psychology schools believe that the mind has two kinds, or at least two main characteristics: a conscious one and an unconscious one. The conscious mind perceives things around us as self-existing independent entities – events in time and space, material things, concepts, desires, and so on – whereas the unconscious mind stores and transmits these events, concepts, and desires as memory, attachment, or feelings. Thus, while we may consciously perceive ourselves as healthy, happy, successful, or worthy individuals, we may unconsciously think those same events and qualities to be true of us, even when they are not. That is the nature of memory, attachment, and memory residue, and this belief determines our behavior.

If you are interested in learning about yoga for fitness, you would probably be interested in learning about its psychology, particularly the philosophy of yoga. One school of thought about this matter is called yogic psychology. The philosophy of this school is similar to that of the early psychics, who could detect dangers to people and animals long before the person had an opportunity to experience them. In fact, many of the methods used by the early psychics are still used today. Those interested in learning more about this type of yogic psychology might want to do a little research before they buy into the current trend and get involved with yoga for fitness, however; there is some controversy over the accuracy of many of the methods used to psychically detect and identify health problems.

In comparing yogic psychology to that of other forms of spiritual psychology, it should be noted that there is a lot of difference between consciousness and the subconscious. The early psychics who used techniques like astrology, palm reading, and other kinds of divination based on the ability to read the future we’re actually practicing yogic psychology, just as are those who use techniques to develop their inner strength and power through meditation, contemplation, and daily exercises. The difference between the two lies in the fact that consciousness, which includes all of one’s thoughts, emotions, memories, and experiences, is higher than the subconscious, which contains the darker, primitive, and less beneficial parts of one’s being. Because consciousness is higher than the subconscious, it cannot be reached by logic and reasoning, which makes it, in essence, superior to all the other aspects of our being.

Practitioners of yogic psychology believe that this superior level of mind is where true freedom lies. Through meditation and conscious concentration, they are able to access the ultimate freedom of the self, which is the state of Oneness. Through yogic breathing techniques, they are able to connect their minds and bodies together as one. As this connection occurs, both the mind and body learn to strengthen their connection and begin to move towards the wholeness that they seek. This leads to the achievement of oneness and the ultimate freedom that many yogis long to experience.

The ultimate freedom that many yogis strive for is the ability to unite the body and mind into one. Through the practice of postures and yoga breathing techniques, practitioners are able to achieve this goal. When this goal is achieved, true inner peace and happiness can finally come into one’s life. Without inner peace, everything that happens to a person is pure misfortune. But when this happens, it can also bring about enlightenment or peace of mind to the individual. Once the mind and body are unified, true freedom begins to unfold.

Yogic psychology teaches us that in order to make this connection, we must first establish a deep sense of ourselves. This is done through meditation and conscious focus. Once this is achieved, then we can use our minds and concentrate on things that are positive and leading us away from negative influences and thoughts. We can then become free of the anxiety and stress that we experience throughout our day and into the deeper levels of our consciousness. Yoga psychology teaches us that if we continue to focus on the positive, then eventually, our minds, bodies, and spiritual well-being will follow suit.
